Nigeria: Media Trust Donates to Jam'iyar Matan Arewa

Kaduna — Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust, Weekly Trust and Sunday Trust as well as Aminiya, the Hausa newspaper, places a lot of premium on its social responsibility and that is why it is granting scholarships to eligible students of tertiary institutions and helping orphanages, Hajiya Rahmatu Ahmed Adio, a senior accountant with the company's Kaduna Bureau has said.

Hajiya Rahmatu made this known while being shown a set of computer desks that Jam'iyar Matan Arewa Orphanage Home bought with MTL's N150,000 quarterly contribution to the orphanage.

According to her, Media Trust gives scholarships to female medical students and gives automatic employment to outstanding graduating mass communications students who want to pursue a career in journalism.

"All these efforts are aimed at contributing our widow's mite to the development of society because government alone cannot do everything", the accountant said.

She praised the school for not only using the donation judiciously but also keeping records of all donations given to it.

Responding, Hajiya Maryam Ahmed, the coordinator of the orphanage, thanked Media Trust for the gesture and urged other organizations to follow its example. The coordinator also showed the delegation round the computer room.
