Uganda: Rains Paralyse Ntungamo

Ntungamo — Several buildings in Ntungamo District, including the one housing the office of Ms Janet Museveni, the Ruhaama Member of Parliament, were on Tuesday evening flooded after a heavy down pour.

Property worth millions of shillings were destroyed while business came to a standstill for over 24 hours.

Landlords faulted

The Ntungamo Town Council authorities blamed the floods on blockage of the drainage channels by house owners as they create paths to their houses.

"Water cannot move because most drainages have been covered with soil and others blocked by small culverts. We expect even more floods," Mr Patrick Tumwesigye, the Park Ward councillor, told Daily Monitor yesterday. Ntungamo Town Council chairman Patrick Muhangi Kanyate called for government intervention.

Daily Monitor was not able to get comments from Ms Museveni's office.
