Harare — CHILDREN of Zimbabwe's music legends are billed to hold a gala in Harare next month, a first of its kind.
Dubbed "Siblings of musical legends gala" the gig is slated for Megga 1 Bar, popularly known as Pamahuswa, on December 6.
Event organiser, Mrs Veronica Mukandi, who together with her husband runs the joint said the gala was one of the many initiatives they had embarked on to promote local musicians.
"We looked around and realised that there were many sons and daughters of musical legends who are talented, but have not been marketed fully and given the necessary support they need to take up from where their parents left.
"We then decided to hold a gala, where we will be able to support them in our small way and we hope we will give them the wings they need to fly and realise their dreams," she said.
The joint recently made a cash donation of US$2 500 towards the Banyana Bafana trip to India, where they will represent Zimbabwe together with four other dance groups from different African countries.
Those expected to take part in the gala include Tendai Manatsa, Sulumane and Tryson Chimbetu, Sam and Selmor Mtukudzi, Morgan and Tendai Dembo, Simba Chibadura, Biggy Tembo Junior, and Bruce Mpofu, who is the son of the late Paul Mpofu of the Murambinda fame.
The organisers were yet to get in touch with Bruce for confirmation.
"We do have brilliant upcoming musicians in our midst, with the exception of a few in the likes of Sulu, Sam, Selmor and Tryson, others are really struggling to make it," Mrs Mukandi said.
She said they were working on plans to bring together the living parents of the lot, a move meant to create synergies between them, so that they can continue to communicate and exchange notes on their children's progress and challenges.
Should the gala become a success, there were plans to make it a regular event.
The event, the first of its kind is expected to produce fireworks among the participants as they would each battle to outdo each other on stage.
While musicians like Bruce and Tendai Dembo are regarded as minnows in the industry, there is certainly no doubt that they could turn out to be the crowd's favourite and steal the thunder from Sulu, Sam and Selmor who have made it in the music industry.
