London — A newspaper claim that a Nigerian has faked a marriage with his daughter to secure a United Kingdom visa for her has sparked renewed debate for immigration control in the country.
A British conservative tabloid, Daily Mail, claimed in a report yesterday that a Nigerian living in the UK had arranged a fake marriage with his daughter to secure her residency in the country.
It alleged that Jelili Adesanya, 54, who works for the UK Home Office, arranged the fake marriage with his "daughter" Karimotu Adenike a few years ago and secured her a permission to reside in UK .
The paper claimed that Mr Adesanya has lived in UK "for more than 30 years and holds a British passport, but wanted his daughter, her husband and their four sons to join him from Nigeria .
"He faked a wedding ceremony complete with a photograph of the happy 'couple' which helped fool immigration officials that his daughter, Karimotu Adenike, was really his wife.
"Miss Adenike, who is in her mid-30s, was duly granted permission to live in the UK ," the paper claimed, adding: "It is expected she would try to remarry her real husband to get them all visas".
The paper, which is known for its anti-immigration stance, said that the Home Office seems to have done nothing to stop the scam by one of their own workers, despite being tipped off two years ago.
Mr Adesanya had denied allegation that he married his own daughter. "Married my own daughter? I have never heard anything like this in my life. I deny it. She is my wife, not my daughter," he was quoted to have said. The report generated harsh online criticisms against the Home Office in particular and the Labour government in general, with many blaming it for being too soft on immigration control.
A Conservative Member of Parliament and Shadow Minister, David Burrowes, said: "I am very surprised and concerned that no action appears to have been taken, because the allegations are extremely serious". The Home Office said it was investigating the matter.

Ajons, point of correction for you. The British National Party (BNP) do not own the Daily Mail. The Daily Mail only play into the hands of the BNP because of it stance on immigration. Please get your facts right, we know that immigrants are receiving alot of bashing at the moment, blamed for the economic, politcal and social problems in the UK, but the BNP has nothing to do with the ownership of the daily mail.

First realise that, we do ourselves more harm that what is happening overseas, imagine you are britons, would you close your eyes to if these allegation is true, let's not tolerate any evil all in the name of defending "blackness" let's get over this complex. average life is been wasted in Nigeria in the name of corruption which can not be punished in Nigeria, just 25 years ago, Ngerian would reject British citizenship, talkless of seeking for jobs in UK. Corruption and what have you is ruining the very fabric of our culture. Let's stand up for the truth in this country. It is the truth that can set every life free!

I really think that you have demonstrated a guilty conscience. Your supporting statement for such acts of poor citizenship says a lot about who you are.
You must have done similar acts before and now you are jumping to defend the undefendable all in the name of blackness.
Just to correct your errors, let me remind you that to be black means to be strong and not hide behind excuses for wrong doings. Those who are exposing this corruption should be applauded and not made to feel as if they are the ones who have done something wrong.

We already know the British people for who they are now. They have always in the past pretended that they are not racist people, but now we know that that is not true. We hear report of immigrants being killed on the street in Britain now. We are told by our people living in UK of how they openly show their racism now by openly voting for their racist party. The racist party campaing by saying that they want only White people in Britain. What they want to do is to kick out all Black race in Britain. So this campaing strategy gets them alot of vote from racist white people. Very soon the Party is going to win the general election and another Adolf Hitler and the holocaust will happen in Britain. This paper called the Daily Mail that reported this story must have fabricated this story because the paper is owned by this Racist Party. Beware!!!
