Nigeria: Suswam Urges National Assembly to Expedite Action On Constitution Review

Makurdi — Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State has urged the National Assembly to expedite action on the review of the constitution to ensure its application during the 2011 elections.

Suswam gave the advice at Government House, Makurdi, during a courtesy call on him by the House of Representatives Committee on Water Resources led by its deputy chairman, Mr. Johnson Abolagba.

The governor, who noted the high expectation of Nigerians in the reforms, stated further that if properly carried out, it would clear most of the contentious issues hindering credible elections in the country.

He further reechoed his earlier call on the National Assembly to appropriate more funds to states to enable them complete some federal projects being carried out by the state government.

Earlier, Abolagba had told Suswam that the committee members were in the state to assess projects being executed by the Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority.

Abolagba further commended Suswam for his effective management of the affairs of his state and assured that desired attention would be given to the electoral reform.
