Ibadan — The National Assembly would soon look into the problem of insecurity for members of the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) serving in all states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory.
Mr Nasir Ngalu , Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Youths, disclosed this at Iseyin, the permanent orientation camp of the NYSC in Oyo State.
Speaking during a visit to the NYSC orientation camp, the lawmaker said that the report of insecurity for corps members has become a source of worry and anxiety to all parents and corps members themselves.
He hinted that the House would soon table the issue of insecurity for public debate on how the lives of the innocent youths could be preserved and guaranteed.
The Legislator pointed out that there was no truth in the speculation that the act setting up the scheme would be repealed, pointing out that it has been the only tool of fostering national unity in the country.
Nasir also disclosed that efforts would be made for proper funding of the scheme, adding that the request of the state Director, Mr. Gabriel Ibe would be passed to the appropriate channel.
An NYSC member, Taiwo Awonike, appealed to the Federal Government to ensure the security of lives of corps members serving in all states of the federation in view of recent acts of violence unleashed on some of their members in some states in the Northern part of the country.
She also called for the provision of necessary logistics like drugs to meet the medical needs of the corps members.
