Gaborone — Botswana Football Association (BFA) Players' Status Committee announced yesterday that former Township Rollers' goalkeeper, Barolong 'Toldo' Lemmenyane has been cleared to pursue his career at bitter rivals Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
The goalkeeper has been inactive since the season started after Rollers stalled his move to the Kgatleng giants, demanding P20,000 compensation.
The matter was brought before the Players' Status Committee, which ordered Rollers to produce evidence of the money they claimed to have spent on the player.
During a sitting held last week, it is understood that the committee were not satisfied with the evidence that Mapalastina brought.
"Rollers in their contention demanded P20,000 which they said they have spent on the player's development and tuition. But the committee was not convinced by the receipts they brought forward and they will now be paid P4,300 by the club which is interested in the services of Toldo.
If Rollers is not happy with the ruling, they have been given 10 days to take the matter with the National Appeals Board (NAB)," said Players' Status Committee secretary, Tumagole Tumagole.
Chiefs' communications officer, Clifford Mogomotsi said that they have always been interested in the services of Lemmenyane and they are happy to hear that the issue has been resolved.
Mogomotsi pointed out that they have already written to the Premier League Committee (PLC) and copied the letter to Rollers showing their interest in signing the former national team goalkeeper. "It is our intention to have the player before our game against Gaborone United (GU) on Sunday. Toldo is a talented goalkeeper who we believe can contribute a lot to our team," he added.
Rollers' secretary, Khumo Masonya said they last heard from the PLC on the matter when they were ordered to bring the receipts of the money they have spent on the towering goalkeeper.
He denied reports that they are not willing to release Lemmenyane.
It is understood that because of the unhealthy relationship between Chiefs and Rollers, it is likely that Mapalastina might appeal the ruling and further delay the transfer.
Yesterday, Lemmenyane said that it is frustrating to be watching games from the stands when he should be playing.
ww"It is the nature of how our football is run in this country and all I can do is to wait. I am working hard in training and once I am cleared to play, I will give my best. I don't want to dwell too much into Rollers' claims.
Right now my heart is with Chiefs and I want to play for them," he said.
After Mompoloki 'Wrist' Sephekolo was red carded in the 3-2 win over Uniao Flamengo Santos a fortnight ago, Chiefs were left only with Gontse Tlhowe as the only goalkeeper.
The inexperience of Tlhowe is worrying Chiefs' officials, hence they are desperate to have Lemmenyane before the crunch encounter against GU at UB Stadium on Sunday.
