Nigeria: Ajasin Foudation, ICPC Collaborate On Code of Conduct

Akure — THE Adekunle Ajasin Foundation, established ten years ago to immortalize the former civilian governor of Ondo State, yesterday, said it was collaborating with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offence Commission (ICPC) to come out with a code of conduct for politicians in the country.

Briefing newsmen ahead of the 10th anniversary of the Foundation in Owo, the Country home of the late sage, its Chairman, Rt Rev Bolanle Gbonigi said the code of conduct was to stem corruption and to restore moral values of Nigerian politicians.

Rev. Gbonigi who is the former Bishop of the Akure Anglican Diocese pointed out that it would be useful for people who were interested in contesting for elective offices, decrying that "politicians in Nigeria look for position in order to get possession and not to serve" .

While saying that the preparation of the code of conduct would kick off next year, the Chairman added that a leadership training programme for the students in tertiary institution was also in the offing.

    While it is commendable for ICPC to establish this code of conduct, IT IS OBVIOUS THAT SIMILAR LEGISLATIONS BY LAWMAKERS WILL BE MORE EFFECTIVE AND BINDING. WAKE UP NIGERIA!
