Dar Es Salaam — HEARING date of a case implicating the former Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) President Shabaan Mintanga, who is charged with conspiracy and illicit in trafficking of drugs worth over 100m/-, is still a puzzle.
The case was adjourned yet again today, because the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), has not returned the file to the Kisutu Resident Magistrate's Court for further proceedings.
State Attorney, Flora Massawe, told Resident Magistrate Liad Shamshana that the file was still with the DPP. However, she said, investigation into the case was still underway. She prayed for another adjournment, as they wait for further directive to the case.
In a desperate mood, Mintanga who has stayed in custody for over 11 months now, was returned in remand after the magistrate granted another adjournment until December 2, when the case will be mentioned.
In the previous court session, Principal Magistrate, Euphemia Mingi, who was hearing the case had ruled out that Mintanga's case was serious and needed in-depth investigation, to establish his involvement in the illegal trafficking of illicit drugs to Mauritius.
In the case, Mintanga is accused alongside six other people of having conspired on June 3, last year, to export 4.8kg of heroin, valued at 120m/- from Tanzania to Mauritius.
