Tunisia: Banking - BNA, 50 Years and Still Going Strong

Tunis — Under the patronage of President Ben Ali, Tunisia's "Banque Nationale Agricole" (BNA) celebrates its fiftieth anniversary under the motto "a renewed ambition".

On this occasion, a press conference was held along with a field visit to the head office, where journalists were briefed of aspects of banking operations, they also visited the Computer Security Unit as well as the Bank's global electronic transactions center.

Following the visit, Mr. Moncef Al Dakhli , the Bank's CEO, held a news conference in which he highlighted the history of the Bank and its active role in the national economy.

He said that since its inception fifty years ago, the Bank has been a major player in the national economy.

"The Bank has just increased its capital from 100 million dinars to 160 million dinars which boosted its turnover in 2009 to 427 million dinars", he said.

Mr. Dakhli noted that since the Change, the Head of State has striven to make Tunisia "a pole of banking services and a regional financial hub" as mentioned in 2009-2014 Presidential Program.

The Bank's revenues have increased by 60, 5% and profits have jumped from 3,1 million dinars to 31, 7 million dinars between 2004- 2008, he explained.

Evoking the Bank's national network , "the biggest in the country", Mr. Dakhli said that in addition to the existing 155 agencies, 29 additional agencies will be set up during the period 2009-2013.

"More than a third of our network has been renovated during the 5 last years to meet the demands of customers", he added.
