Mecca — Ten Nigerian pilgrims were quarantined at the infectious diseases hospital ,Jedda for suspected swine flu (H1N1).

According to the Public Health Bulletin, a weekly health publication on medical health services for Nigerian pilgrims published by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), the affected pilgrims, however, turned out to be negative.

The bulletin said 13 referrals had been made to Saudi hospitals and most of them were successfully managed and had been discharged. It also said four patients were admitted in Jedda for other illness and all had now been discharged.

On deliveries and miscarriages, the weekly bulletin said the federal medical team recorded one delivery from Adamawa pilgrims and that the mother and the baby boy were in good health. It also said the team recorded two miscarriages from Kebbi pilgrims.

As at yesterday, according to the bulletin, the Nigeria Medical Mission in Saudi Arabia so far recorded a total of 13 deaths. Of the number eight were in Medina and five in Mecca. It also said eight were males and five females.

Those who died were pilgrims from Kebbi State (3), Sokoto (2), Nasarawa (2), Bauchi (2), Zamfara (1), Plateau (1), Niger (1), Kano (1).
