Nigeria: Deregulation - Abcon Calls For More Enlightenment

Abuja — The Association of Bureau-de-change operators in Nigeria (ABCON) has advised the Federal government to embark on massive public enlightenment campaign on the gains of deregulation in the oil-sector before implementing the policy.

Chairman of the north central zone of ABCON Alhaji Shehu Mahmud gave the advice at a congress in Abuja.

He said the planned deregulation of the oil-sector was long overdue but government must educate Nigerian people.

He said deregulation would force down the prices of petroleum products through competition.

Alhaji Mahmud said ABCON is working with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to sanitize the foreign exchange market that would guarantee lower and stable exchange.

The Sectary of ABCON Mr Ibrahim Tanimu said that government should revamp the country's ailing infrastructure and introduce other welfare packages at the initial stage of the deregulation.
