Uganda: Kisenyi Slum Gets Sh6b Sanitation Project

Kampala — THE European Union is funding a sh6.5b sewage pipeline project aimed at improving sanitation in the Mengo-Kisenyi area in Kampala, writes Norman Katende.

The project is being developed by the Community Integrated Development Initiative (CIDI) under the Water and Sanitation Project in partnership with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation to improve access to clean water by 2015.

"It is one of the projects aimed at improving sanitation and access to safe water.

"We are also training local resource members who promote sanitation at the grassroot level as a way of improving the living standards of the population," said Dr. Fulgensio Jjuuko, the CIDI executive director.

Joan Magayane, the project engineer, said the 5.5km-sewerage pipeline would help drain toilets in four parishes to the main sewerage pipeline at Clock Tower.
