Uganda: Art - WAPI Returns to People's Space

The 9th WAPI (Words and Pictures) will take place on November 21 at Hotel Africana's People's Space and it has been dubbed "Recycle".

According to the British Council which organises these events, if you strolled down Kampala Road or let's face it, anywhere in your neighbourhood, you are bound to find unmistakable waste in the form of "kaveera"- polythene bags or paper. Yet, all the material that is thrown away does not necessarily need to be trashed as it can be recycled and we save the environment while making some money too.

In order to teach the young that it is not necessary to trash everything, British Council, through WAPI, is calling upon all artists to use art to show how the different recyclable material can be put back to good use.

Art directors, artist managers, sculptors, poets, fashion designers, press, website developers, painters, photographers, graphic designers among others are some of the artists that will be provided with free space to exhibit their works in accordance with the event's theme. If your field of art has not been mentioned, do not hesitate to work on your ideas. All are welcome.

WAPI is a monthly event targeting young people, in terms of audience and participation. Upcoming talent is given a chance to get discovered through being given a platform to showcase itself.
