Gambia: Safeway Supermarket Boss Acquitted

Banjul — The Kanifing Magistrates Court, presided over by the Senior Magistrate Abdoulie Mbake, recently acquitted and discharged Neeraj Sharmp, the manager of Safeway Supermarket.

This development came following the defence counselÂ's submission that the accused person be acquitted and discharged, though the prosecutor had signalled his desire to withdraw the case. The prosecutor was, however, overruled.

Neeraj Sharmp was standing trial for cheating. The prosecution had alleged that on the 19th of October 2009, at the said supermarket, Neeraj by means of a fraudulent trick obtained from one Rohey Cham the sum of D210 for a kilo of meat which is a greater sum than that fixed by the municipal authorities.
