Gambia: KMC Youth Fans Club Back From Ziguinchor

Banjul — The Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) Youths Fans Club, recently returned back from Ziguinchor, in Senegal, where they visited their Senegalese counterparts; Union de Jenness Triavaille Liberelle.

Speaking to the Daily Observer upon arrival, Pierre Minteh, the president of KMC Youths Fans Club, described their trip as a successful one. He told the Daily Observer that their visit to Zinguinchor was basically to strengthen the relationship between his fans club and Union de Jenness Triavaille Liberelle, otherwise called the Â'Union of youths for work and liberationÂ'. He added that the trip was also meant to raise funds for the two organisations so as to tackle challenges ahead of them in the future.

The trip which was facilitated by National Environmental Agency, (NEA), comprises of 40 youths including the Lord Mayor of Kanifing, Yankuba Colley. During their stay in Zignichor, Minteh revealed that the Gambian delegation and their counterparts from Ziguinchor organised a special set-settal. He added the set-settal was attended by authorities from both countries, including Senegalese Minister of State responsible for Social Affairs, Innocent Tab Njie, who is also the special adviser to President Abdoulaye Wade.

In her words of advice, according to Pierre Minteh, the Senegalese Minister thanked the heads of State of The Gambia and Senegal for the initiative. She described the friendship as a true pan-africanism and urged the youths to remain committed. She finally vowed to render more assistance and support to the union. While admonishing the youths, the KMC mayor, Yankuba Colley, hailed the relationship between the two organisations and vowed to do his best to support it. He made it clear that there is no difference between The Gambia and Senegal.

He advised the youths to desist from doing bad things that would jeopardise their relationship. As part of the fund raising, Minteh informed Daily Observer that The Gambia super star and Kora Musician Jaliba Kuyateh, was specially invited making the occasion a memorable and a successful one.

He finally thanked the National Environmental Agency N.E.A for sponsoring the trip. He disclosed that as K.M.C Youths Fans Club is expected to celebrate its 10th years anniversary in February 2010, they wold be expecting to received their counterparts from Ziguinchor.
