Nigeria: Imo Orders Contractors Back to Site

Owerri — Contractors handling various roads and building projects for Imo State Government, have been ordered to go back to site and complete their assignments.

The Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Mrs. Comfort Chukwu, handed down the marching order during a meeting with the contractors at her Ministry building in Owerri, yesterday.

She regretted that the rains started early this year, adding that this disrupted work schedules but asked the contrctors to go back to site now that the dry season was setting in.

"Government is ready to pay all contractors that deliver on their assignments. You must show commitment to duty. I must, however, express regret that some development partners do not invest the money paid to them for the projects. Such attitude smacks of sabotage," Chukwu said.

She said that other jobs would soon be advertised, pointing out that only those who performed creditably would be considered for new projects.

Speaking also, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Project Monitoring, Mr. Ben Ekwueme, said that the level of rain this year delayed many projects from being completed on schedule.
