Bauchi — The former chairman of the All Nigerian Peoples Party in Bauchi State, Alhaji Sani Shehu, has been expunged from the party by the state chapter of the party for alleged stealing of party funds which runs into millions of naira and allegedly conducting himself against the party constitution.
This was disclosed by the caretaker committee chairman of the party in the State, Alhaji Haruna Shitu while addressing newsmen at the party secretariat yesterday.
Shitu disclosed in the course of its investigations the party discovered that Alhaji Shehu could not account for over N172 Million being 10 per cent and five per cent deductions "made from monthly salaries of political office holders at the state and local government levels respectively, to fund the party among others."
The caretaker chairman further explained that the expelled chairman of the party had also taken into his personal use, the sum of N17 million made from the sales of nomination forms during the last party primaries for local government council election in the state.
Shitu reiterated that the suspension of the former chairman was to enable the party pave way for investigations into the accusations leveled against him and was finally found to have dipped his hand into the party's funds.
Shitu further revealed that he had handed over the affairs of the party to its state secretary, adding that another reasons for the expulsion of the former chairman was because of his going to court to challenge the legality of his suspension by the state party exco, an action, which according to him, automatically expels him from the party, according to the party constitution.
Shehu, when contacted by our correspondent on action taken by his party and the allegations leveled against him said that, the allegations were not true and that the present exco of the party has no right to expel him.
Shehu had earlier lost a case at the Federal High Court sitting in Jos where he filed a case to reclaim his seat as chairman of the party in the state.
