Bauchi — The police in Bauchi State as part of crime prevention measures during the festive months, yesterday paraded a total of 20 suspects ranging from thugs, popularly known as "Yan Sara Suka," pipeline vandals, robbery suspects, dangerous drugs dealers and counterfeit merchants.
According to the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Atiku Yusuf Kafur, the suspects were apprehended at various places in the state, this success according to him, was as a result of intensified raids by the police in the state.
CP Kafur further disclosed that one locally made toy pistol, one jack knife, 101 suck and die liquid substances, three cutlasses, 9 knives and three wraps of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered.
Others are fake currency of N5, 500 in N1000/500 denominations, large quantities of dangerous drugs, 1 bow and 2 jerry cans of kerosene.
During an interview with the counterfeit suspects, Stanley Benjamin and Prince Nwaiwu, both students of the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, and indigenes of Imo State, they said they were given the notes by a phone booth operator at Wunti street when they sold their phone to him and did not realise that the money was fake, stressing that they were shocked that the money was fake.
Leader of the suspected pipeline vandals, a 22-year old man Danladi Muhammed, revealed that they were at the site of the pipeline they were accused of vandalising to get a gallon of kerosene for their wives when they were apprehended, adding that the pipeline has not been in use for the past 20 years.
The police urged the public to provide useful information in order to curtail crime in the state, and to ensure safety of lives and property.
