Nigeria: Goje Rues Absence of Standard Stadium in Gombe

Gombe — Governor Muhammad Danjuma Goje of Gombe State is not happy with the non-availability of a standard stadium in his domain before the commencement of the just concluded FIFA U-17 World Cup.

But he comforted himself with the belief that the state's sports arena would be ready to partake in any future major sporting event to be hosted by the country. "With this stadium in place, Gombe by the grace of God will be available for any major game in the country. I am sad that the FIFA U-17 was on without Gombe getting a piece of the action".

The Governor made his mind known during an inspection visit to the project site which had attained 55% completion. The contractor of the project is confident the stadium would be ready for commissioning by the scheduled second quarter of next year. He lauds the governor's commitment to the project by fulfilling his part of the bargain, assuring him that they would not disappoint him.

The over 10,000 capacity ultra-modern stadium upon completion would have a tartan athletic track and synthetic pitch alongside other facilities.
