Gambia: Governor Touray Visits Brikama-Ba Market

Banjul — The governor of Central River Region (CRR), Alhaji Ganyie Touray, accompanied by a high-powered delegation, on Wednesday, November 18, visited the ongoing construction work of the new Brikama-ba market in the Lower Fulladou District, CRR South.

Upon arrival, the CRR governor and delegation were received by the consultant of the market, Momodou Gaye, who also took them on a conducted tour of the market. Briefing the governor and his entourage about the market plan, Momodou Gaye said the market will have canteens for meat and fish sellers, vendors shade, sixteen canteens, toilet facilities and a fence. He assured the delegation that the construction will be completed in six months. Governor Alhaji Ganyie Touray thanked Gamworks for their partnership with the area councils in his region.

He said the provision of social services to the communities through partnership with governors is a good initative. Governor Touray noted that community empowerment is part of President Jammeh's priority. He called on the community to cooperate during the course of the construction. The district chief, Momodou Lamin Baldeh, commended Janjanbureh Area Council and Gamworks for initiating such an important project for the community of Brikama-ba.

He said the construction of the market will go a long way in reducing poverty. The chief executive officer of Janjangbureh Area Council, Yusupha Manneh, stressed the need for timely payment of rates and taxes to enable his council to provide more services for the communities.
