Banjul — The 2009 Muhammed Yahya Jammeh's Perpetual Football Cup competition, formerly Zonal Football Championship, will kick-off tomorrow with the defending champions, Bakau, starting their bid for a record third successive title against Gunjur in the Group A opener at Serrekunda East mini-stadium.

The same day will see the groupÂ's other teams, Sukuta and Gunjur, battle it out at the Serrekunda West mini-stadium. After tomorrowÂ's clash against the Kombo north side, Bakau will return to the same venue in the mid-week to face Sukuta in their second group match before an expected cracker against Serrekunda West in third and final match on November 30.

Last year's runners up, Banjul, who face arch rivals Brikama, Serrekunda East and Lamin in Group B, will start their campaign on Sunday, November 22, with an away clash against Serrekunda East. On the same day, Brikama will host Lamin in a mouth-watering cracker at the Box Bar mini-stadium.

A giant trophy and cash prize of D50, 000 await the prospective winners, while the tournament's second best team will bag a cash amount of D30, 000. The third best side will receive D20, 000, while other participating zones will receive a consolation prize of D10, 000 each. Each of the eight participating zones received a preparatory cost of D10, 000 before the start of the championship, which is solely sponsored by the sports-loving Gambian leader, Sheikh Professor Alhaji Yahya Jammeh and coordinated by The Gambia Football Association.
