Nigeria: FG to Spend N350 Million On Onitsha Waste MGT

Onitsha — The Federal Government is to spend N350million on waste management in Onitsha and its environs, Commissioner for Environment, Dr Mike Egbobike, has said.

Speaking with Vanguard yesterday, the Commissioner said the project was a tripartite agreement involving the State, Federal Government and LAGA, whose contribution is about N3.5bn, while the state government contributed land.

"LAGA is a creation of the Federal Government. The Federal Government gave out this contract to the six geo- political zones and LAGA happens to be the one they sent to Anambra and Onitsha was selected," he said.

He said the State Ministry of Environment was using the local government for garbage collection from areas outside Onitsha, adding that they would only collect the garbage while the Ministry would collected the revenue.
