Nigeria: Budget - Rep Expresses Disgust Over Selective Implementation

Abuja — MEMBER representing Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Daniel Reyenieju, has expressed utter disgust over what he described as poor implementation of the 2009 federal budget, particularly as it affects the Warri Federal Constituency.

Speaking with Vanguard at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on his way to Calabar for a retreat by the House Committee on the 1999 Constitution, Reyenieju said none of the projects earmarked for his constituency in this year's budget had gone beyond the respective papers on which they were written.

This, according to him, is not only unfortunate and discriminatory, but a total disregard for the principle of the rule of law by the executive arm of government.

His words:"Any budget passed by the National Assembly constitutes 'law' of the country whose implementation should be total. Unfortunately, what the executive arm now thrives in is half-hazard implementations through process of selective implementation.

The result is that any group that is not represented in the Presidency cum the Federal Executive Council is bound to be sidelined in terms of projects in such areas."
