The Executives of the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) and also Item 3 House, event organizers, have endorsed their signatures in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the commencement of the maiden edition of the "Ghally Gold Awards 2009," to be held next year.

This contractual agreement allows Item 3 House to host the awards for the next three years, which is subjected for review, to check the overall good performance and conduct of the show.

The award, a long awaited initiative, has received lots of criticisms from stakeholders in the movie industry. The awards seek to promote the Ghanaian movie industry, whiles seeking to nurture the growth of filmmakers, and to encourage the exploration of innovation in the movie industry.

Speaking at a press conference held at the MUSIGA premises, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Item 3 House, Mr. Rockson Adu Boahen did observe that the awards had being conceived for the past three years, and has embraced all efforts by stakeholders in making this dream a reality, which has come to stay for good.

He hinted that, a 31 member committee of experts in the Ghanaian movie industry has been put together to screen the nominations of movies.

Mr. Boahen said, the awards would launch on the 22nd on December 2009, whiles the 31 committee member would be sitting for the commencement of the nomination on the 28th December 2009.

He announced that, nomination would be opened for screening of movies on the 16th January 2010. "The Ghally Gold Awards would be held on 6th March 2010, next year", Mr. Boahen added.

The award scheme would be covering movie production in the country from the period of 2007 to 2009. This would be marking three years of monitoring of the movie industry.

The criteria for selecting the best movies for the said period would be done by experts in the movie industry and the general public.

The award scheme would be in two parts, the general public will be providing 30 % of the votes whiles industry experts would be provided 70%.

The awards would be recognizing actors in movies produced in Ghana, and the international market.
