With few days left, reports gathered from the nerve center of the Liberia Football Association are not favorable for the hosting of the pending mini congress of the football house.
The Liberia Football Association was mandated during one of it general assembles by its highest decision making body, congress, to host an extraordinary congress by 21 November 2009.
However, much is unheard so far about the hosting of the congress on the 21st instant. The November congress is important in many respects and prominent amongst them to discuss and adopt the revised statute to pave the way for the election of new officers in March 2010.
Besides, the mini congress will be used to discuss findings arising from a review of the LFA financial records. This, no doubt, makes the pending congress vital for holding elections come next year. To put it bluntly, there could be no congress and, conversely, elections without the passage of the revised statute.
With this, one is obliged to push for answers concerning the state of the mini congress as planned. There are a couple of disturbing developments leading to queries as to the availability of funds to host the mini congress.
Has the LFA records been scrutinized by a reputable auditing firm as mandated? Why has the LFA president stayed out of the country for so long and has just returned? Have the LFA and FIFA settled down on the issue of the modified statute?
We as football enthusiasts need to juggle these rather troubling questions and many more. We really need to, because after several years, stakeholders need to effect a change for the better at the level of the LFA, and this can only happen when elections are held.
Despite all these speculation, LFA General Secretary failed to comment when contracted.
So what tends to hinder the path to elections or postponement of congress should be of concern to all.
