Zambia: Women Cricket Team Jet in Dar for Africa Meet

Dar es Salaam — ZAMBIA arrived in Dar es Salaam today, ready for the Africa Under-19 women cricket tournament that starts at Annadil Burhani ground in the city tomorrow.

Chairman of the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA), Zully Rehemtullah, said today that other countries that will compete in a week-long event will arrive today. They are Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda.

"Everything was set for the tournament that will be played in 30 overs to start. We expect a thrilling tournament because all the competing teams have good players. He further said that the tournament will help Tanzania women cricket players to raise their standard.

Rehemtullah said that the national Under-19 women cricket team will launch their campaigns against Zambia in the morning, while Kenya will face Uganda later in the day.

Tanzania girls who are under coach Hamis Abdallah-a senior national team all rounder, have stepped up training ready for the championship.

The TCA picked 22 players, who have been in the camp at the Muhimbili Cricket Academy in the city for the past two months. They train once a week under the senior national team players Mwanaidi Ibrahim and Saida Hamisi," he said.

They are Esther Wales, Jesca Emir, Tonga Leah Mushi, Sekela Yona, Zakia Sanguti, Mariam Said, Sharifa Juma and Judith Mwambayuwayu, all from Zanaki Secondary School.

Others are Tunu Jumanne and Atugenile Mwakifuna (Kisutu Secondary), Zainab Khamis (Jamhuri Secondary), Zena Khamis (Victoria Secondary), Dorisia Justine and Fatuma Selemani (Makumbusho Secondary) and Irene John (Muhimbili Cricket Academy). He said seven other players will come from Morogoro.
