Black Stars and Rennes forward Asamoah Gyan has copiously expressed regret to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac and Ghanaians for failing to respond to the roll call for the Ghana-Angola friendly.
The failure of Gyan, Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari to make the Angola trip, has generated heated argument among the sporting populace and the lay alike. Below is the apology missive.
I wish to sincerely render an apology to you, the technical team and my colleagues for unceremoniously traveling to France, without joining the team for the Angolan game.
My action was not deliberate but a moral one to save my job and my club, Rennes SC.
Rennes earlier on in the week wrote to the Ghana Football Association, humbly requesting the FA to release me to come and help them in a crucial club game on Saturday. Even though the FA didn't respond, I realised that it was going to be difficult for me to travel back to be able to play for my club against Le Mans on Saturday.
My club had lost the last two games and apart from loosing my position in the club when the game was played without me, I could loose my job as well.
Ghana is my country and I wholeheartedly will choose Ghana first, but please accept my explanation and pardon me for any inconvenience caused.
I will continue to contribute my quota in taking this team to the highest level of world football. I will use this opportunity to say sorry to you, the GFA and all Ghanaians, and thank them for the support given to me so far and ask for their continuous prayers in my career.
