Francistown — Police have cleared the mist surrounding the death of a 47-year-old woman of Matshelagabedi who was found dead in her car along Matshelagabedi-Francistown road last week.
Officer Commanding District Number 15, Senior Superintendent Chabaesele Kesupetswe said that their investigations have revealed that Haniffa Dube was not involved in a car accident but was rather murdered.
"It wasn't an accident, the deceased was murdered as she was chopped once with a sharp object on the head," said Kesupetswe.
The deceased, who was an employee of Tati Company, was laid to rest at her home village on Sunday. Her husband, Youngman Dube, is in police custody in connection with her murder.
Kesupetswe added that investigations further showed that Haniffa was not murdered at the scene where the car was found.
He alleged that the deceased could have been murdered after work or at night though it is unclear whether she was killed inside the car or not. He said that her clothes were soaked in blood. The car is believed to have been pushed into the trench while the windscreen and the headlights were smashed.
The body of the car was in good condition. On the day the incident took place it was drizzling, but Kesupetswe said that the car could have been abandoned at the place prior to the drizzle, as there were no visible tracks.
Police are questioning Dube because he was the only person who shared the house with the deceased.
Kesupetswe however dismissed allegations that upon thorough searching the police had found bloodstains in the couple's house where the accused is alleged to have hacked his wife with an axe.
He said that Dube, who hails from Zimbabwe, joined the police at the scene and burst into tears.
The accused then told the police that his wife left for town the night she met her tragic death to check on a relative who had been hospitalised.
He further claimed that he tried phoning her, but he could not reach her as the phone was off.
Dube is said to have not reported to the police about his wife but only showed up at the scene of the incident.
Meanwhile, Kesupetswe revealed that police have recorded five more murder cases in the past four weeks.
One of the murders occurred at Tshesebe Village where a woman with disability was killed by a young man who later committed suicide.
Another murder was in Jackalas One, where a man murdered his brother by stabbing him with a knife.
An old woman of Maitengwe Village was also found dead, but investigations revealed that she was murdered.
Kesupetswe added that the latest murder case was recorded on Wednesday morning.
A passerby reported the incident following a strong smell emanating from the house.
The deceased is alleged to be a Zimbabwean woman. No one has been arrested in connection with the murder. The man she had been sharing the house with is said to have disappeared.
Another incident that occurred in Francistown was at Kgaphamadi location where one Julia Tshekiso allegedly murdered her husband Isaac by hitting him with a beer bottle.
