African Democracy and good Governance (ADG) in collaboration with Women's World Summit Foundation (WWSF) on Thursday 19th November organized a programme for the commemoration of the World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Violence against children and the Convention on the Rights of the Child at their main office in Churchill's Town on the role of parents and adults in preventing abuse and violence.

In his statement, the Director of ADG Mr. Edwin Nebolisa Awakaeme said that the WWSF global campaign for prevention of abuse and violence against children was created in 2000 and is among the larger grassroots partnership network of committed actors which seeks to create a culture of prevention. He noted that last year, about 1000 partner organizations carried out many activities and events on various forms of abuse.

He also stated that they helped in the creation of a bank through making prevention a priority and in achieving their common goal and a world free of abuse and violence for the children of the world.

Nwakaeme also elaborated on the role of adults in the prevention of abuse and violence against children. He noted that prevention is the most challenging and yet the most important and rewarding work in many people's lives.

He said that parents play a crucial role in every stage of a child's development. He further said that parents play a major role in protecting their children from harsh and painful experience including abuse and violence. He noted that child abuse has no geographic or cultural boundaries. "Its insidious and life threatening". said Nwakaem.

He finally said "the role of parents in prevention is extremely important and as adults, we need to use our knowledge and experience to teach and help our children grow into responsible adulthood".

For his part a philanthropist and the proprietor of Chikatex inter Blz Chika Chalesalwosu said his company will give an amount of D5000.00 to St. Thereasas Upper Basic School for the wonderful drama they performed.
