Zimbabwe: Cara's Arundel Lesson

Harare — DO you fancy seeing the world's best doubles tennis player giving out a free lesson in Harare?

If so, then probably drive to Arundel School on Monday because Cara Black, Zimbabwe's top female tennis player, will be doing just that.

Cara is back home as she takes a break at the end of a hectic WTA Tour.

She will host a special lesson for 13-year old Kudzai Malunga, a pupil at Arundel School who won the bid for the rare slot.

Malunga outbided other people in Harare for a chance to receive exclusive tennis tips from Black.

The bid for the lesson was done as part of the Harare Mayor's Christmas Cheer Fund auctions on items.

Yesterday, Black revealed that she was doing all this to support the charity.

"I will be at Arundel School to conduct a tennis lesson.

"There is this girl, Kudzai who won the slot and I will be working with her at 3pm," said Black.

Other members of the Arundel tennis team are also expected to be at the tennis courts.

"The junior tennis players and the senior players will probably be there too," she said.

As part of their fundraising, the organising committee for the Cheer Fund, asked for the highest bidder to get a tennis lesson from Black.

"It's all part of the Mayor's Christmas Cheer Fund and it's something to do with the community," she said.

Black was also in Zimbabwe last year around this time when she conducted a coaching clinic at the Harare Sports Club for junior tennis players.

She played with over 30 players.

One of the board members of the Harare Mayor's Christmas Cheer Fund, Bonny Woodman said Harare Mayoress Fikile Masunda, will be among the guests at Arundel.

"As the Harare Mayor's Christmas Cheer Fund, we are having activities to raise money for charity.

"One of these involves a tennis lesson that is to be given out by none other than Cara Black.

"Kudzai Malunga will be getting the lesson and I am sure the senior and junior tennis teams will attend," she said.

Cara said she was pleased with her performance during the tour this year despite failing to land a single Grand Slam title in the women's doubles.

"It was a great year on the tour, I had some good results.

"Unfortunately I did not win any Grand Slam but we were pleased with some of the results," she said.

Cara and her partner Lizel Huber are ranked the best women's doubles team on the professional circuit.
