Nigeria: Dangote Supports Abuja Carnival With N20 Million

Abuja — Dangote Group of Companies has supported the on-going Abuja Carnival with N20 million as part of its social responsibility in promoting Nigeria's tourism potentials, the company's General Manager Alhaji Isa Tata Yusuf said yesterday.

He said the gesture is part of the company's contribution towards the development of Nigeria's cultural heritage and tourism potentials to the international community with a view of attracting foreign investments.

He said the company is concerned with the need to develop the country's tourism potentials which is a source of foreign exchange to many countries in East Africa.

"The company's contribution was utilised in sponsoring this year's durbar in the on-going Abuja Carnival. We sponsored contingent from several states of the federation by transporting them to Abuja, provided their accommodation, feeding as well as providing their traditional regalia," Tata said.

He said that the company is deeply concerned with the Federal Government's re-branding project which the carnival is aimed to achieve by showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the country.

"The event is a sure way of enhancing unity among the diverse ethnic groupings in the country. Also, it is an avenue where foreign investors will be wooed to come and invest into the country", he said.

Chairman of the occasion and former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Modibbo Alfa Belgore said that the essence of the sponsorship was to achieve the development of the Nigeria's tourism sector.

He called on other companies in the country to emulate the gesture offered by Dangote Group of Companies in the development of tourism with a view to diversify the revenue generating profile of the country.
