Nigeria: Group Laments Plight of Kaduna Health Workers

Kaduna — The Kaduna based Civil Rights Congress (CRC), has lamented the plight of striking health workers in Kaduna state, accusing the state government of being insensitive to the problems of the workers .

President of the CRC, Mallam Shehu Sani, in a statement in Kaduna alleged that the health sector in the state was in a state of paralysis due to neglect as describing the strike by the health workers in the state as a welcome development.

"I salute their courage, determination, patriotism and foresight. The action of the health workers represents the interest of the human rights community and we solidly support them."

" The health sector in Kaduna State is in a state of paralysis due to abject neglect, apathy, lack of funding and insensitivity by successive governments in the state.Nigerians have been denied their right to life and good health by governments and have left ordinary citizens to the mercy of private hospitals, herbalists, marabouts and fate."

" Nigerians have become victims of false promises, budgetary failures and insensitivities of our rulers. Nigerian hospitals have today become a place where one goes to grave. In a situation whereby public office holders and their families can afford to travel overseas for cataract treatment ,other Nigerians too deserve better treatment at home, no one's life is better than the other" he said.

He recalled with sadness the relocation of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, (ABUTH) and a school of nursing from Kaduna town to other parts of the state, saying the relocation of the teaching hospital from Kaduna city where it was most needed to the hinterland was a contributing factor to the poor state of health in the state.
