Kampala — Vincent De Vischer commissioning the construction of Palero sub-county office block
Five projects worth sh6.7b have been commissioned to improve sanitation, security, health and road networks in war-ravaged northern Uganda.
The projects were funded by the Government and the European Union (EU).
The districts to benefit from the donation include Gulu, Lira, Pader and Kitgum.
The EU envoy to Uganda, Vincent De Vischer, who commissioned the projects on Wednesday, said construction of Palaro sub-county office block in Gulu cost sh173m.
"We are building a new fort of democracy for development in the northern region. I pray that this lasts longer than Sir. Samuel Baker's fort," said De Visccher.
Other projects included the renovation of Gulu district chairperson's office and Madi Opei Police Station in Kitgum at sh37.2m and sh172.2m respectively.
Other commissioned projects were the newly constructed Latanya health centre in Pader district and the Anwata Primary School classroom block in Lira.
Gulu district deputy vice-chairperson Santo Okot hailed the EU and the Ugandan Government for the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in the region.
