Ibadan — Local government chairmen in Oyo state have assured people at the grassroots level of having access to potable water.
Disclosing this while briefing journalists, chairman of Ibadan North East local government, Hon. Gbenga Adewusi, remarked that local government chairmen in the State are more determined to better the lots of the people through provision of social amenities, especially water as boreholes will be sunk in every local government councils.
Hon. Adewusi, who spoke on behalf of other chairmen, commended the recent initiative of the state government at procuring new borehole drilling machines for the 33 local government councils in the State.
He assured that the drilling machines would be put to maximum use for the benefit of the people, stressing that the kind gesture of the state government to procure the machines would bring tremendous relief and comfort to the common people at the grass roots level in the provision of clean and potable water.
Hon. Adewusi pointed out that the initiative of Governor Alao Akala's administration will not only promote good health but will also contribute greatly to the eradication of all forms of water- born diseases.
The chairman, said that the Ibadan North East local government had continued to complement the effort of the state government in the accomplishment of physical developmental projects.
He disclosed that the local government has been making concerted efforts to improve the condition of roads in the local government, adding that 42 major roads and bridges had been constructed just as 14 major roads had been tarred.
The local government boss said that maternity and health centres had been established in various parts of the local government just as it has continued to construct and renovate schools and class rooms.
Hon. Adewusi pledged his commitment towards improving the living standard of the people of the local government, adding that he will continue to render better services to the people even at a higher level.
