Zanzibar's Chief Minister Ally Juma Shamhuna has requested the world soccer body FIFA) to recognise the Isles and give the membership.
Speaking during the launch of the World Cup Trophy tour in Zanzibar yesterday, Shamhuma suggested the membership to emulate United Kingdom style that involves England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland as independent members of the federation.
"Similar format can be applied here to enable us compete in the Fifa-sanctioned tournament as an Independent member.
Shamhuna said Zanzibar would not stop from fighting for the membership despite seeing most of the -past struggles ending fruitlessly.
"We still hope to succeed one day as we will keep on fighting for the membership.," he said.
Shamhuna received the trophy at Forodhani grounds where thousands of soccer fans flocked to watch the trophy's maiden tour of the Isles.
Fifa World Cup Trophy is scheduled to return to Dar es Salaam today and the city's residents will get broad opportunity to watch and get photographed with it at the National Stadium.
In Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro Stars head coach Brazilian Marcio Maximo has dismissed Ugandan threat in the East African Challenge Cup slated for a kick off on November 28 in Kenya.
Titleholders Uganda are among the teams play against Stars in Group C pairing which also Includes Zanzibar and Burundi.
"I don't fear Ugandan threat as I know how to deal them a blow as we did in the CHAN qualifiers. I will be happy to play them again this season," he said.
However, Maximo warned his players to work hard since a win always go to the players who fight for it.
"We beat Burundi and Zanzibar last year In Kampala the victories can not make us all time better than them. Players should put into consideration that a beaten opponent wouldn't want to repeat the same mistake when you meet him next time," he said.
Despite his overconfidence with his boys, Maximo was worried with a number of injuries at his camp.
The Injury casualties include his defence pillar head Salum Sued, striker Danny Mrwanda, goalie Ally Mustapha 'Bathez' and stopper Shadrack Nsajigwa.
