Windhoek — The title of the CD is actually a combination of two songs on the album, 'Obama', and 'Heaven Smiles', which is a reflection of the singer's great admiration for the US President, Barack Obama. Even the back cover of the CD is taken up by a portrait of the youthful president!
Harakuta explains: "I experienced many hardships, problems and challenges. Against all odds, I, just like Barack Obama and the previously disadvantaged people, made it despite all the difficulties we faced. In addition, one man dared to inspire the world with only three words: "Yes we can!"
All 10 songs on the album were written and composed by Harakuta, who was also responsible for the lead vocals, backing vocals and acoustic guitar.
The singer is not unknown in music circles in Namibia. Born in Grootfontein, his music career started in 1985 when he wrote his first song titled 'Wisdom'.
In 1994 he became the first Namibian musician to be awarded a musical contract by an organisation in Hollywood after he submitted two songs, 'Chocolate Girl', and 'How Must I Love You'.
In 1997 he reached the semi-finals of the NBC Music Makers Competition with his song, 'The Search is Going On'. He has also been nominated twice for a Sanlam and NBC Gospel Music Awards in 2003 and 2004.
Harakuta performs regularly at cultural festivals such as the //Ae-gams Festival, the Unam Cultural festival and the Bank Windhoek Arts Festival.
His debut album, 'My Source', which was released in 2003, was also marketed in Germany and the Netherlands.
