Abuja — Abia State government has denied reports by some national dailies that the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC are after the wife of the State governor and some top government officials over their alleged involvement in a financial scam to the tune of N3.3billion.
Briefing newsmen at government house, Umuahia, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Kingsley Emeruwa adviced members of the public to disregard the malicious and libelous report and said that the wife of the governor has never gone into or signed any contract with any American lady by the name Mrs. Mirinda Nwadieyi and her Nigerian husband for the supply of Chevrolet Cars to the State government.
Emeruwa said there is no truth in the allegation that the wife of the governor ever approached the so called American lady for the purpose of opening any coded account in the USA or any where irrespective of the cheap blackmail the EFCC is probing the text messages between the governor, his wife and the American lady over the alleged proposal.
"The truth is that the State government has never gone into or signed any contract with any American lady or Mrs. Mirinda Nwadieyi and her Nigerian husband who incidentally hails from Arochukwu in Abia State for the supply of vehicles to the state government."
The Chief Press Secretary explained that the state government was not aware of any contract fee to the tune of N11.8million naira which in there own admission had no documentation paid to any commissioner for transport in the state for the aforementioned contract.
He said the proposal of Mr and Mrs Nwadieyi to the government was turned down after enquiries from neighboring states that went into non-profitable deals with the couple and owing to the non-suitability of the proposal to the transport scheme of the state government.
"it got to a point where they claimed to have spent huge amount of money in pursuing their proposal and requested that they at least be compensated with another contract"
