Nigeria: Customs Intercepts Smugglers in Cross River

Abuja — Customs operatives in the Eastern Marine Command of the Service at Ibaka, Oron Water axis in Cross River State, have cracked down on smugglers attempting to smuggle two boats fully loaded with prohibited secondhand hand clothes worth over N300, 000.000 into the country.

While briefing newsmen in Calabar, comptroller in charge of the Marine Command, Abdulkarim Hussaini, who commended the performance of his men, stated that the battle against smuggling is being won to the benefit of the Nigeria economy, adding that smugglers will continue to count their losses as the anti-smuggling unit is determined to crack on them in all fronts.

He assured that with improved logistics and enhanced welfare initiatives of the comptroller general of Customs, officers are being motivated to put in their best to serve the nation.

According to a statement by the service deputy spokesman, Joseph Attah, Customs with the support of the ports authority will transfer the seized items to the Government Ware-house.
