Arusha — Just how digital literate your future church pastor will be?
Based in Ngaramtoni area, the Arusha Bible School which trains church ministers serving under the Tanzania Assemblies of God denomination of churches has a total of 125 students but only six computer sets, according to the college Principal, Arthur Lusulo.
Mr Lusulo stated that effective next year, the college will establish optional computer studies for students who would be interested in going digital in addition to the usual Bible knowledge studies. "We are however going to charge them very little to encourage more enrollment," he said.
Last week the theological college saw the graduation of 51 ministers, nobody knows how computer literate those could have been.
The Training Director for the TAG Education Department, Pastor Oral Sossy who graced the graduation ceremony said the other thing which constrains the academic development of local students, both in Arusha and Tanzania as whole was the limited mastering of the English language.
"The education offered in Tanzania is possibly the best in East Africa, but our graduates find themselves less confident when out there in the working field since most cannot express themselves fluently in English despite being highly qualified," he stated.
According to Pastor Sossy, people from Kenya, Uganda and other parts of East Africa always manage to push ahead because they can confidently speak English and even though their academic qualifications are usually limited, the Queen's language gives them better mileage when it comes to securing employment or advancing in career
Sossy added that the country, including TAG church was at the moment spearing efforts in ensuring almost every Tanzanian was fully educated, "The Tanzania Assemblies of God has so far established four colleges including this Bible School of Arusha," he revealed.
Pastor Sossy added that the Dodoma based college is soon going to be elevated into University Status to offer first and Second degrees; other TAG operated colleges are in Mwanza and Mbeya regions with efforts to establish more being still in blue prints.
