Yenagoa — The embattled Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa State, Chief Rufus Abadi, yesterday wrote to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ogbona Onovo, over rising threats on his life by persons simply identified as "Bravemen" over his alleged role in the protracted crisis within the party in the state.
Abadi had, after last weekend bomb attack on his country home at Otuan in Southern Ijaw Local Government area of the state, moved into hiding outside the state and insisted that the attack was not unconnected with his refusal to attend a party meeting convened by the faction of the party loyal to the Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva.
While speaking yesterday from his hide out on telephone, Abadi said though he had notified the Head of the State Security Service (SSS), his decision to write to the Inspector-General of Police was based on confirmed report that his life was in danger and the need for detailed investigation into the series of threats issued by the group known as Bravemen.
Abadi said some of the death threats received showed that there is a plot to eliminate him due to what those involved called attempts to stop the political advancement of their "master".
In one of the text messages forwarded to Leadership by the embattled chairman, the group admitted that it carried out the attack on his hometown and that it was very close to eliminating him.
The threat text message read: "You escaped by the stroke of the whisker last weekend. Dis weekend, nothing on earth will save you. Since you want to stand in our way. Ijaw or non-Ijaw agenda you are playing will never scale through. Your Deputy will take over to deliver the ticket for our master."
Another message from the unknown group read: "Your family is not important, if not we would have touched them but they are not our target. You are our target and must go down. No matter how you run, we are always a 100 meters from you. You are marked for death and nothing can change it. Bastard!"
