Accra — The Catholic Bishops of Ghana have condemned certain social crimes such as pedophilia, incest, homosexuality, greed, bribery, corruption, violence, killing of others for the power and wealth infamously referred to as " sakawa" which have been on the increase in recent times.

This was contained in a communique issued at the end of a seven-day National Catholic Bishops Conference at Yendi in the Northern Region. The Conference was under the theme "The church in Ghana at the service of Reconciliation, Justice and Peace: You are the salt of the earth, you are the light of the world (Matthew 5:13, 14)."

The Conference drew attention to the fact that some Ghanaians have gradually sidelined the imperatives of our culture which included the respect for life and elders, decency, promotion of Justice and peace through dialogues and hospitality.

The Bishops also registered their dissatisfaction with the computer school selection and placement system which they said have created more problems for students, parents and guardians, stakeholders and school administration and called for measures to rectify the situation.

To consider homosexuality as a 'certain social crime' on a par with pedophilia, incest and murder is absolutely disgraceful. The Catholic bishops of Ghana and the world over, would do well to stop their abominable discrimination of gay. lesbian and bisexual citizens. Their twisted ideas about homosexuality has been the cause of continuing violence and suffering among these communities. In Western Europe, gays, lesbians and bisexualserle are in government and academia. Do these prelates really believe these people to be criminals??? HA! HA! They had better pay attention to the abuses by the clergy itself as reported recently about child abuse by Irish priests. It is high time for homosexuals in Africa to emancipate. In the US, gay-bashing is already considered to be a hate-crime. The state should withstand pressure from a hypocritical church. Moreover, Universal Human Rights bill against discrimination should be thrown in the faces of the Ghanean bishops.
