Gambia: Witch Killing Case Continues

The criminal trial of one Lamin Faye resumed last Friday before Justice Moses Richards of the Special Criminal Court in Banjul.

Faye is alleged to have stabbed one Mustapha Jammeh with a knife in June 2009 in Gunjur, Kombo South District, Western Region, based on the belief that Jammeh was a witch/wizard who was after him. The prosecution, led by SH Barkun, has closed its case after calling two witnesses, Rose Mendy and Pateh Jawo.

The defence, led by Lawyer Assan Martins has informed the court of its willingness to open its case. The matter has been adjourned to December 9, 2009 for the accused to commence his defence.
