Gambia: Governor Seckan Hails GRCS

The governor of the North Bank Region (NBR), Alhaji Eduwarr Seckan, has commended The Gambia Red Cross Society (GRCS) for complementing governmentÂ's efforts in the provision of humanitarian services to disaster victims and displaced families in his region.

The governor was speaking during a presentation of non-food items to 12 displaced families donated by The Gambia Red Cross Society, with the ultimate aim of improving the plights of affected families to enhance their participation in the socio-economic development of the country. He assured that government is very much concerned with the welfare of the displaced families - empowering them to rebuild their homes and engage in food production in particular. The NBR governor hailed The Gambia Red Cross Society for their generous humanitarian assistance to the affected families in his region and assured them of his officeÂ's continuous support.

Speaking at the occasion, Ousman C Jallow, Regional Red Cross Branch officer, underscored the importance that the GRCS attaches to humanitarian assistance to people in difficult situations. He said the presentation of the non-food items is the 3rd of its kind from the GRCS to disaster victims this year. Jallow urged the people to continue carrying preventive measures to avoid occurrence of disasters, and that all parents should play a proactive role to educate their families on the dangers of bush fires as the dry season turns in.

The NBR Red Cross boss thanked the Regional Disaster Management Committee for their steadfastness and support in the disaster assessment. He assured the people of his officeÂ's continuous support in complementing governmentÂ's efforts in its humanitarian services. Ebrima Sowe of Barra and Kalilou Fatty of kerewan, on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked The Gambia Red Cross Society for the support.
