Struggling Notwane launched a late rally to avoid defeat in 1-1 draw with visiting Nico United at Molepolole Sports Complex on Saturday.
Winless Toronto had failed to give their few supporters at the match anything to cheer about in the first half. Notwane's direct approach only served to drain the players' energy as it never troubled the opponents.
Nico made the hosts uncomfortable, competing for every ball and quickly closing them down. But once in possession, Majombolo stayed deep instead of surging forward in numbers to put Notwane under pressure.
As early as the 12th minute, Nico earned a free kick on the right and Effert Sakwata delivered a good low ball into the box but there was nobody to finish. Oteng Oganne came charging from the left five minutes later and sent a cross to Tendaiu Ndoro whose header was easily brushed by Botlhe Moralo in the Notwane goal.
Former Notwane midfielder Kitso Kowa hit the crossbar after 29 minutes with the young Notwane defence out of sorts. Seconds before the break, it was Nico probing again.
Oganne beat the off side trap to fire home but Moralo fisted the ball over the bar. The score was 0-0 at half-time.
Minutes after re-start, Notwane introduced Safi Sibisibi and Galabgwe Moyana. But it was the skilful Moyana who troubled the opposition. The Nico bench sensed danger immediately and brought in Thobo Kgoboge and the former FC Satmos' striker immediately set up Ndoro with his first touch to open the scoring.
Notwane reacted strongly and threatened to equalise three times but an under-siege Nico cleared the danger. Barnes Radipotsane and Kaelo Mashiakgomo played better in the second half for Notwane after the introduction of the crafty Moyana.
Just when the Notwane faithful started to lose hope of an equaliser, Mashiakgomo came charging and hit the post in the 68th minute.
The fans had to wait until the 73rd minute when Notwane earned a free kick on the left and Moyana came forward to deliver a perfect ball for defender Desire Bafana to nod home and salvage a point for his team.
Toronto might be struggling at the moment but they still have potential. They could prove a dangerous lot once the youngsters have settled down.
