The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero Univerity, Kano, Prof. Attahiru Jega (OFR), has called on the private sector to support the institution for the forthcoming West Africa University Games Football and Hockey competition.

Jega said the institution was ready to receive hockey and football teams from all parts of the region for the event slated to hold between January 20 and 31. The VC stressed that it was important to partner with corporate bodies to boost the competition.

"We have the facilities, we have good teams preparing for the two events but we need sponsors to ensure our visitors were well received and treated throughout their stay in Nigeria.

"Sport is a unifying factor and that is why my leadership has committed so much resources to the provision of world-class facilities," Jega said. The President of WAUG, Prof. Lasun Emiola, said the body had been organising various meets to keep students in West Africa busy.
