Gwanda — Concerns over slow implementation of the power-sharing deal that led to the formation of the unity government is preventing Britain from pouring more aid into the country, the UK Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mark Canning said last week.
"We will be spending around US$100 million in Zimbabwe this year for large scale projects in health, to support primary education and investing in water sanitation systems to make it difficult for cholera to return," he said in an interview on Tuesday.
"We are pleased by the economic development of Zimbabwe but we still have concerns for the need of the political provisions of the GPA to be fulfilled.
"If the will is there and the GPA is implemented in full to move Zimbabwe forward. . .you will find Britain an active and committed partner."
Canning was speaking in Gwanda, Matabeleland South, where he commissioned a library whose construction was funded by the British Embassy.
The library, built at a cost of US$40 000, was constructed in honour of the late liberation war hero, Edward Ndlovu.
The Canadian and Swedish embassies assisted with furniture to quicken the opening of the library. "This is a considerable effort (US$100m) by the British government. We want this country to get back to where it belongs.
"We believe the new inclusive government presents a real opportunity to move this country forward," Canning said.
Zimbabwe is desperate for investment to revive an economy that has been shattered by ill-planned policies, among them, the 2000 agrarian reform that President Robert Mugabe has defended as necessary to correct historical injustices over land ownership.
Canning said ongoing land invasions had scared off British companies that are keen to invest in Zimbabwe.

Britain, especially its Ambassador to our country should know that his country is wholly to blame for ALL the troubles and problems we are facing. Mark Canning's regime internationalized a bilateral dispute that only needed the Blair and now the Brown regime to continue with what the Thatcher regime was doing - funding the purchasing of our land from barbaric land grabbers of British extraction as agreed at Lancaster House.
Mark Canning cannot today tell us that his country want to give us aid as if we asked for it. What we ask for from his regime is the removal of cruel, ruinous, barbaric, racist and illegal sanctions that his regime imposed on our country. Britain can keep its filthy investments as long as it removes sanctions on our people.
Canning cannot pretend to be concerned about the reoccurrence of cholera when it was them who introduced this disease and anthrax in Zimbabwe in the first place. At a time when the British MI6 in conjunction with the Rhodesia CIO wanted to exterminate black people, the barbarians introduced these diseases to completely wipe our people out from the face of the earth. True, even to this day, cholera and anthrax have become a regular occurrence in many parts of our country.
So, Mr Mark Canning, please be advised to keep your filthy lucre away from Zimbabwe. What we need is non-interference from your regime that is running a parallel government in your puppet's office and funding pirate radio stations that are causing hatred and polarization in our mother land. We know MDC is your baby but please just stop destabilizing our country by funding a grown-up man.
You provided money from the MI6 run Westminster Foundation and channeled it through Amani Trust, for the creation of MDC, why continue polarizing our people at a time we should be uniting? It is not to your liking that we are seeing things the same way - we are now able to distinguish between a Zimbabwean interest and a foreign imperialist interest. Even your stooge is now starting to appreciate the irreversibility of the land reform programme.
That is what you are not happy about and so you continue to interfere. Please stop it Mr Ambassador, we are no longer a colony of yours. We liberated ourselves from the yoke of slavery you had put around our necks.
Please take note; ZIMBABWE WILL NEVER BE A COLONY AGAIN, Sir!!!
again lets go through this....
"Britain, especially its Ambassador to our country should know that his country is wholly to blame for ALL the troubles and problems we are facing".
Very typical ZANU PF blaming everyone else for there own faults, with no sound fact, logic or reason to back up the claim.
"What we ask for from his regime is the removal of cruel, ruinous, barbaric, racist and illegal sanctions~"
Under Zidera, the US uses its sovereign right to determine who it trades with, its sovereign right to decide how it voes in the IMF and its sovereign right to decide who enters its borders. How are these acts "cruel, ruinous, barbaric, racist and illegal"?
Each is a sovereign right. Would you trade with you neighbour if you knew he was raping his child and beating his wife? Would you let him in your house? Would you tell others not to help him?
"Canning cannot pretend to be concerned about the reoccurrence of cholera when it was them who introduced this disease and anthrax in Zimbabwe in the first place"
Others will recall comments from Takunya stating that the CIA also invested homosexualtiy and spread it to the west. AS you can see... he really is a stupid fucking lunatic who really needs help.
"At a time when the British MI6 in conjunction with the Rhodesia CIO wanted to exterminate black people"
Did he really say that? This is what goes through his mind people...
"the barbarians introduced these diseases to completely wipe our people out from the face of the earth"
Again.... what a fucking loser.
"pirate radio stations"
whats wrong? a little truth hurt?
"You provided money from the MI6 run Westminster Foundation and channeled it through Amani Trust, for the creation of MDC"
Again more unsubstatiated lies.
"Why continue polarizing our people at a time we should be uniting?"
Have you read the Herald lately?
"ZIMBABWE WILL NEVER BE A COLONY AGAIN"
And here we see the final piece of ZANU PF lies.... trying to create a fictitious enemy so they are required in government. The reality is far from this.
Awt_The_Coloniser;
I am happy to note that you have finally conceded that ZiDERA is a sanctions piece of legislation. All along you did not accept that it was a sanctions law. I also notice that you accept that IMF, WB, African Development Bank or any other lending institutions are not American institutions and so the regime of Bush or Obama have no right under the sun to deny us lines of credit.
This is why I see you are agreeing with me that the sanctions are "cruel, ruinous, barbaric, racist and illegal". Thank you for seeing the issue of sanctions the way I and other progressive people on here do. This is the same way that D_Bokk looks at the issue of sanctions despite him being an American who, naturally and easily, should have been tempted to go along with the propaganda that his government is churning out every day.
Zidera is perfectly legal and justified. The US has the sovereign right to determine who enters its borders, who it trades with, and how it votes at the IMF.
"I also notice that you accept that IMF, WB, African Development Bank or any other lending institutions are not American institutions and so the regime of Bush or Obama have no right under the sun to deny us lines of credit."
Incorrect, the US has a 17% voting right at the IMF and they have every right to vote how they please to deny Zimbabwe lines of credit to corrupt fools.
And I most definately did not agree with you that "sanctions are "cruel, ruinous, barbaric, racist and illegal"."
In fact they are non of the above. Prove they are illegal for instance. I know you cant.
awt, the Holocaust was legal in Germany as well... domestic legality isn't the issue here. Sanctions break the universal laws of men which rules out using these backhanded methods of starvation to get their way. The problem is that our leaders have turned into effeminate hucksters who use cowardly tactics to expand their sphere of influence.
