Zimbabwe: Mudondo at It Again

column

DINO Mudondo's fans were left wondering if he learnt any lesson from his disastrous affair with Cecilia Dapeta after he made a "move" on another "sugar mummy" during a live performance last weekend.

The musician called the lady who looked to be in her late 30s onto the stage, hugged and fondled her as he sang a "happy birthday" song.

Some lines of the song went: "Happy birthday to you. . .who is your boyfriend . . . I am your boyfriend. . ."

It later emerged that the lady identified as Tendai Mhonda, popularly known as Mahwindo, had requested to have her birthday celebrated during the show.

Mudondo who is in his early thirties was performing at a reunion gig with his long-time buddy Willom Tight at Jazz 105.

Josh Hozheri, the Jazz 105 owner confirmed that Mahwindo had asked for permission to hold her birthday party concurrently with the Mudondo-Tight show.

"She is one of our regular patrons and she requested to come with her friends to the show and celebrate her birthday. I granted her the permission," Hozheri said.

Mudondo said he had been informed about the request and there was a prior arrangement for the band to sing her the birthday song.

But it was the way he held her and their apparent closeness that raised eyebrows.

The musician said he was very close to Mahwindo but denied the existence of any chemistry between them.

"People took it the wrong way. I am not in love with Mahwindo and I will never be," explained Mudondo.

"She is one of my fans and we are very close. Everytime I play at Jazz 105, she comes to support the band."

But then he admitted that their relationship had grown from a general fan-musician interaction to a personal level.

Mudondo said they had at one point travelled to South Africa together but maintained that they had never been an item since Mahwindo knew about his affair with Dapeta.

"We travelled to SA together but we were just doing so as friends. She knew about my relationship with Cecilia and the two were also close. There is no way I can be in love with her."

Mudondo "spiritually wedded" Dapeta, who was also older than him but the relationship, ended acrimoniously following pressure from his friends and relatives.

The musician made a stunning revelation to a weekly paper of the ordeal that he went through during his affair with Dapeta. His apparent move on Mahwindo left many wondering if he has slept over the horror so early.

But Mudondo says he will keep away from women for sometime as he focuses on reviving his career.

He said his reunion with Tight was one of the steps to strengthening his career.

Mudondo and Tight parted ways about four years ago after working together for six-years.

They have been pursuing solo careers but decided to reunite early this month after realising that they performed better as a duo.
