Uganda: Citizens Leave for Arab Jobs

Kampala — A total of 128 Ugandans have left to work as guards and truck drivers in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

Hussein Abdurazak, the Two Niles Agency, managing director, explained that 33 of exports have already taken up jobs with Securiguard in Abu Dhabi.

"We have taken these Ugandans to work and save for their future.

"All recruitments have been approved by the gender, labour and social development ministry through its external employment programme, which monitors labour exports from the country," Abdurazak told reporters in Kampala last week.

He said the guards would earn $770 (about sh1.4m), while the drivers will get between $1400-1500 (about sh2.5m- sh2.7m) a month plus medical insurance, food and mileage allowance.

All jobs are on a three-year renewable contract, he said.

Two Niles Agency is a labour export firm.
