The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), through the World Friends Korea Programme, has donated 25 computers to support an ICT project at Karume Institute of Science and Technology in Zanzibar.
According to the KOIKA deputy country representative Ms Shin So-Yeon, the computers valued at Sh30 million were handed to the institute at the end weekend.
Ms So-Yeon said that that the project would increase the institute's capacity to offer quality education through improved educational infrastructure.
The handing over ceremony was officiated by the Zanzibar minister for Education and Vocational Training, Mr Haruon Ally Suleiman and ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Tanzania, Kim Young-hoon.
Ms So-yeon said that KOICA, through the World Friends of Korea Programme, has been supporting various projects to facilitate activities of its volunteers and contribute to capacity building in organisations that hosts the volunteers.
She said currently, there were more than 90 Korea Overseas Volunteers in Tanzania and over 110 Tanzanians are scheduled to joint training programmes in the Asian country this year.
Ms So-yeon said the agency was also carrying out several projects such as diagnostic services in health centres in Dar es Salaam and capacity building for agro-processing in Dar es Salaam, Morogoro and Zanzibar.
